Creative Block? Me too.

For those that do not know, I am writing a novel. It has been an idea, or rather storyline, that has been on my mind for four years now, and finally, during this time of lockdown I decided that I had to finish it. The problem is that I now have writer's block, again.
Throughout the past six months of writing I have had about three periods of writer's block, or lack of inspiration, and it's not because I don't know what to write next, it's that I just don't feel motivated or inspired. When the first wave of loss of enthusiasm hit I was distraught, and felt like I was being lazy and could kick myself for it. But, soon I realised that this is just what happens sometimes, and the best thing to do is listen to your body and mind. I learnt a hard and frustrating lesson that when times like this come in your life, whether it be for exercising, work or creativity, it is most probably your subconscious telling you to take a well-deserved break, where you can recharge and go back to the project after a few days, or in my case, three weeks.
Yes, you heard me, I have not been able to write anything for almost three weeks, and even as I type that fact into this post, my hyper-productive self is cringing, but I know that once the block has passed I will be back writing like a mean-machine!
So, if you are having blocks of any kind, don't worry because you are not alone. I find the best things to do are to take a step back, put the project away and out of your mind, rest and recover, and then finally and most importantly, get back in the game and keep going!
