The Best Chocolate Smoothie Recipe

With half of January already almost over, I thought it fitting to post one of my favourite healthier recipes. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a smoothie to cleanse yourself from all the festive eating and celebrating.

I am a huge fan of chucking ingredients into one blender and whisking it all up into a glass of goodness, and that is exactly what smoothies are - easy and a healthier option; a win-win situation if you ask me. For years now I have made numerous amounts of different flavoured smoothies and have tried almost every combination of ingredients under the sun (trust me), and now with this perfected cocoa smoothie, I thought it's about time I share it in a post.

Some special Ingredients I put in my Smoothie:

Protein Powder: I will generally have a smoothie as a snack on days that I am doing heavier workouts / training, and so I like to put a scoop of plant protein into my shake. The protein powder

I absolutely love and stick by is the Kauai Plant Protein.

Collagen: I use collagen powder in my shakes to help me with my hair, skin and joints. The brand of collagen I have been loving is from A Happy Being Co, and I use the cocoa flavour.

Important notes about healthy milkshakes:

As easy and as healthy as smoothies are, there are many ways one can go wrong, and pretty much make themselves a delicious, fatty milkshake without intending to - and all of this rides on the ingredients. More often than not smoothies can contain an absorbent amount of ingredients that are either calorically dense, and you don't even know it, or they are not actually the right combo for that smoothie in particular and add up for no reason at all because they don't benefit the taste or your body. When making my smoothies I have learnt the importance of taking care of what I throw in the blender, and I measure out proportions and calories to ensure I am not making myself a caloric dense milkshake, instead of a healthier option. So, with that being said, let me share my quick and simple Cocoa smoothie recipe with you all.

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana (having the banana frozen just creates an incredible creaminess to it)

  • 1/3 cup milk of choice ( I use Oat Milk)

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 150g Plain yoghurt

  • 3 teaspoons Xylitol (You can use honey, but then do about 2 tsps)

  • 11g Happy Being Collagen Powder ( Optional - you do not have to add collagen powder)

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 1 scoop Plant Protein powder (Optional, you do not have to add protein powder, but it does add to the thickness of the shake)

Instructions:

  • There's really not much to it! Just chuck all the ingredients in a blender / food processor and blend it up!

*Nutritional Notes:

This smoothie is 400 calories and is a great snack or breakfast with a good source of energy and protein ( 38g to be exact).
