A Romantic Getaway: Boschendal

"Inspiring ways of living that regenerate nature and actively support communities to thrive, through an exceptionally unique South African experience" - This is the vision statement found on Boschendal's website, which I find speaks truth to the magical Franshcoek wine farm.

Boschendal is a historic South African wine estate that boasts stories of the past and present, taking you through a picturesque view of beautiful nature and rich history. The farm accentuates the beauty it is surrounded by, and emphasises the importance of nature, its reservation and living in harmony with it.

The Accommodation

At Boschendal you can choose from a vast selection of accommodations, where each one is unique from the next, giving you a completely different experience each time. The Boschendal farm is set at the foot of beautiful mountains and is engulfed by gorgeous gardening, vineyards and bellowing trees. For your convenience, I have detailed all you need to know about the accommodation right here:

First up is the Werf Garden Suites. This is where Mighail and I were during our stay and it was nothing short of peaceful and picturesque. Now, don't let the word 'suite' confuse you, these are actually cottages complete with a kitchenette, sitting area, fireplace, private patio and garden, as well as an ensuite bathroom. These garden cottages are perfect for romantic getaways as they sleep 2 guests. Although the cottages are set alongside one another, they still feel secluded and private, as you have a walled garden around you with the cutest lemon trees and flowers, making you feel as though you are in a little house!

We stayed for 3 nights, and the reasonable pricing of these cottages is such a treat! The rates below show the prices for a 3 night stay.

Next up is the Orchard Cottages, where you can find a range of options from one bedroom to four bedroom cottages. These cottages are nestled in between the farms fruit orchards, giving you the real citrus farm experience. The cottages are all equipped with kitchenettes, outdoor dining areas for braais, as well as a large communal swimming pool outside.

Next we have the Trout Cottage. This cottage is set in a private area of the farm , giving you as guests the ultimate romantic getaway. If you are looking for a secluded space that is great for a couples retreat, then this is the spot! If you stay at the Trout Cottage you even have a private dam as well as hiking and mountain biking trails. The cottage is 2km from the main area of the farm (ie the restaurants, shops and reception), so guests staying there will be required to have their own transportation. This cottage can sleep 6 guests and is dog friendly.

Now, if you are wanting bigger spaces for a family vacay, or even accommodation for a small wedding party, then Boschendal has two great options for you. First is the Mountain Villa - a beautiful private villa that can sleep 12 guests. This amazing space is private and has a fully equipped kitchen, two lounges and large terrace that wraps around the whole property. Outside you can also find a bar area, braai, pizza oven and large, private swimming pool. This villa has a 3 night stay minimum.

Second, you have the Cottage 1685, which is another great option for a family vacation or small wedding party. This cottage sleeps 10 guests and is also set away from the main area (2km away). This space is a heritage site, and again provides an incredible historic experience. At this cottage you have an eco-friendly pool as well as a gorgeous outdoor dining area under the trees.

And last but not least, we have the final accommodation option which is Bertha's Retreat. This accommodation is set up specifically for large groups such as friends, family, or even work groups. It is a venue that is comprised of small cottages that sleep a minimum of 2 people each. This venue also has a communal indoor screening room, dining room & lounge and a variety of meeting rooms making it an ideal space for conferences, team building and strategic executive breakaways. There is even a large lawn outside perfect for events. And if you ask me, this space is screaming for an intimate wedding situation! 😍

Activities

The grounds of Boschendal are breathtaking, leaving Mighail and I feeling so happy and blessed to be walking around such gorgeous paths. The vegetation and gardening is immaculate, and the amount of great walks and hikes one can do is endless.

Boschendal offers an array of activities, and when you stay with them you get an amazing breakfast included, as well as a complimentary wine tasting. The estate offers a range of activities that are family, pet, and honeymoon friendly. Some of these activities are Horse Riding, Wine Tasting, Farm Tours, MTB, Running and Hiking Trails, a Farm Shop, Deli, Butchery and Restaurants.

As a guest to Boschendal, you will get complimentary breakfast, farm tour / wine tasting, and access to hiking trails as well as communal pools. Each accommodation is slightly different in the packages, so it is best to check when you are booking what is included in that specific stay.

Rating

The overall experience of Boschendal was great, and although Mighail and I spent most of our time doing garden walks and relaxing on our patio (and not so much adventurous activities that were offered), it was a great rejuvenating time.

I am going to rate each getaway I blog about out of five bees (not stars, because let's get real, bees are my trademark).

Overall I would have to give this Romantic Getaway a rating of four bees 🐝🐝🐝🐝 out of five. I would rate this experience as great, and would recommend it to anyone!
